I suspect this scene is staged.  I can believe each animal independently has a (similar) idea of what (s)he wants to happen.  (How can I get water?)  But different species simultaneously conceive of, communicate, and act on a shared idea?  (“I’ll help you get water now if you’ll help me scratch my back later” or “I’ll let you have my kitty treats tonight if you’ll help me get water now.”)  THere may really be an interesting situation here — but I doubt it.  photo source: Icanhascheezburger
